Friday - Jan. 30th

ALGEBRA
In class: Goal: Solve linear systems with one, infinite, or no solution.
Assignment: Review game worksheet p. 94.

Pre Algebra
In Class: Goal: Use graphs to gather information and solve percent problems.
Assignment: Complete the Bar Graph story problem worksheet. Write a proportion, then use the cross products to solve for the missing value.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students handed in grade sheets.
In Class: Students evaluated other students’ essays and found figurative language in them. We continued to work on a convention practice activity and reviewed the Tremendous Thirty rules.
Assignment: Grade sheets due. State writing assessment is February 3rd and 4th! Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Chapter 15 Test!!! You may not use your book or notes during the test.

SCIENCE
In Class: We did Lab Conclusions (questions 1 and 2) from yesterdays Physical and Chemical Changes lab. They wrote 6 terms in the notes section of their journals in preparation for Monday. Students were given 5-10 minutes to figure out class table families before we discussed what they were. Each student was assigned a number and had to write down a symbol and 3 characteristics that described them. This card will be placed on the periodic table with their picture.
Assignment: Get all make-up work done and in!!! Get out and look at the constellation of the month.

Bell Work: Students read in their AR books and took book tests.
In Class: Students evaluated other students’ essays. We began working on a convention practice activity.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students shared their Nebraska Pioneer Propaganda. Then, we reviewed for the test that we will be having on chapter 15 tomorrow. Students have a notes packet and their textbook to prepare.

In Class: We did Journal entry #35 and discussed what they should of gotten for answers. We went to the lab room and completed the Chemical Reactions lab. Assignment: Get all make-up work done and in!!! Get out and look at the constellation of the month.

In Class: Goal: Use proportions to find the percent, part, or the whole.
Assessments were returned and recorded on page 19 of the planner.
Assignment: Page 340 exercises 9-23 odd, 28-32. Write a proportion, use the cross products to solve for the missing value.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: None.
In Class: Students finished a sample writing assessment about their favorite restaurant.
Assignment: State writing assessment is February 3rd and 4th! Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students discussed and read about how the US acquired California, New Mexico and the Gadsden Purchase. Student completed review question in small groups.
Homework: Write a letter to a family member explaining how Nebraska (1840’s) is a “pioneers paradise.” The letter must be at least one paragraph long and embellishments are encouraged.

SCIENCE
In Class: We did Journal entry #34 (half sheet of pink paper) and discussed what they should of gotten for answers. We then finished the Physical and Chemical changes lab #7 that talked about physical and chemical changes in the world. With remaining 3-5 minutes students started trying to figure out groups of the class table.
Assignment: Get all make-up work done and in!!! Get out and look at the constellation of the month.

In Class: Students completed a review sheet of the US annexation of Texas and guided reading activity of the Oregon Territory. Students analyzed the different ways the US acquired land through Manifest Destiny.

In Class: We finished the Physical and Chemical changes lab (Part 2 and Part 3). We started the lab conclusions and will finish #7 on physical and chemical changes in nature tomorrow.

Bell Work: Students organized writing notes for practice assessment.
In Class: Students divided into groups and evaluated writing assessments using state rubric. We read sample assessments. Students used object essay to analyze sentences.
Assignment: Sentence analyzer sheet is due Tuesday. State writing assessment is February 3rd and 4th! Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students learned about the Texans Independence from Mexico. We discussed the conflicts between Texans and Mexicans, Alamo, Santa Anna, and the controversy over Texas being allowed to join the US.

SCIENCE
In Class: We finished the notes on the compound and bonding reading out of the book. Grades were recorded for the incomplete periodic table activity and the mystery element sheet. We started the Physical/Chemical changes lab.

In Class: Students went to Media Center to listen to book talks by Mrs. Mahalek. We shared our introductions and handed them in.

The HISTORY Experience
Experience at School: Students took a chapter 15 quiz over the Louisiana Purchase and the acquisition of Florida. We also worked on chapter 15/16 vocabulary words (word, picture, definition and sentence).
Assignment: Complete vocabulary

SCIENCE
In Class: In class, students checked the top half of the Incomplete Periodic Table. We then went through the questions on the bottom of the page as a class. The table was handed in after all questions were answered. As a class, we read pages 39-42 and filled in a note’s sheet on compounds and bonding.

In Class: Students did an activity with transitions and active words with groups. We read aloud sample essays and discussed good qualities. Students are to write an into for season essay.
Assignment: Season intro due Friday. State writing assessment is February 3rd and 4th! Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points.

The HISTORY Experience
Experience at School: We discussed how the United States acquired Florida form Spain. Students illustrated this process and worked on notes packet. There will be a quiz tomorrow on the Louisiana Purchase and the acquisition of Florida.

SCIENCE
In Class: Graded brochure tour sheets were handed back and recorded on the 3rd term grade sheet. Students then got with a partner and exchanged their vocabulary words from “Name That Element.” The top ten vocabulary words were listed in their journals. They then read and highlighted a Periodic Table reading. Some time was given to discuss the Incomplete Periodic Table and what the students didn’t complete was assigned for homework.
Assignment: Fill in the boxes on the Incomplete Periodic Table (we will go over questions at the bottom tomorrow). Get out and look at the constellation of the month.
Journal: Journal #32 and definitions to 10 vocabulary words attached.

In Class: Students took a quiz over the descriptive essay and handed in object essay with improved words. Students wrote leads in cursive handwriting.

The HISTORY Experience
Experience at School: We discussed the Louisiana Purchase- How much money, why France sold it, American reaction and other options to acquire the land. In addition, notes were taken in class.

SCIENCE
In Class: We worked on the “Name That Element” activity with our Science World magazines. Students handed in their brochure tour sheet and their vocabulary and clue sheet from “Name That Element.” Tomorrow the top ten vocabulary words off the vocab sheet will be reviewed before continuing with other material.

In Class: Students did a true/false review game to practice writing terminology. We went over writing terms and received a lit term worksheet.

The HISTORY Experience
Experience at School: Discussed how Andrew Jackson was able to win the battle of New Orleans and how he was credited for “winning” the War of 1812.

In Class: Students reviewed journal entry, got new lab partners, made element flashcards, and worked on Atom’s worksheet.

Experience at School: Students took quiz and handed in Davy Crockett Stories. Philosophy Friday- Symbols and what it means to be just.

In Class: Looked at the new constellation of the month (Orion). Handed out brochure rubrics and compared them to individual student brochures. Handed in completed color copies of brochures.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students reviewed their spelling/vocab words.
In Class: Students continued to work in groups to complete descriptive packet. We read a sample descriptive essay.
Assignment: Fourth page of writing packet is due Friday. Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points.

The HISTORY Experience
Experience at School: Students read and discussed the culture of the United States in the early 1800’s. We read p. 180 – 181 in the textbook, viewed examples of folk art, listened to spirituals, minstrels and classical music and completed a worksheet.

Assignment: Complete Davy Crockett Story AND Quiz on Friday (War of 1812, Monroe Doctorine)

SCIENCE
In Class: Last day to work on brochures during class time. We printed color copies today. Plan to stay after school to finish if you aren’t done.
Assignment: Be sure any make up work is taken care of.
Journal:. Black and white copies were looked at and suggestions made for color being added.

Wed. - Jan. 7th

ALGEBRA
In class: Wrote today’s goal in the planner: Learn to graph linear inequalities in two variables.
Assignment: Page 363 exercises 16-42 even, pick up a piece of graph paper if you were absent.

Pre Algebra
In Class: Wrote today’s goal in the planner: Learn to simplify ratios with different units of measure. Get the notes from a classmate.
Assignment: Complete p.278-279 exercises 6-40 even.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students wrote down their spelling/vocab words.
In Class: Students took notes over writing information. We also received the “lead” worksheet. The descriptive packets were passed out and students worked in groups to complete first page.
Assignment: First page of writing packet is due Thursday. Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points.

The HISTORY Experience
Experience at School: Students read and discussed the Monroe Doctrine and Latin America’s independence from Spain. Students took notes and answered guided reading questions in class.

Assignment: Quiz on Friday (War of 1812, Monroe Doctorine)

SCIENCE
In Class: Templates are being filled with info. and pictures. Black and white copies were run for alignment. Some color copies were run and handed in. All brochures are due at the end of class on Thursday. Plan to stay after school to finish if you don’t get done.
Assignment: Be sure any make up work is taken care of.
Journal: We reviewed pictures needed for the brochure and how to place them. We also reviewed the tri-fold used to place all info.

ALGEBRA
In class: Returned and recorded the chapter 6 packet. Reviewed solving absolute value inequalities. Wrote today’s goal in the planner.
Assignment: Page 357 exercises 41-67 odd, pick up a piece of graph paper if you were absent.

Pre Algebra
In Class: Returned assignments, fill out planner for the week and wrote today’s goal in the planner. Learn to simplify ratios and get a unit ratio. Get the notes from a classmate.
Assignment: Complete Reteaching worksheet 6-1.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students filled out his planner.
In Class: We discussed AR program and points, cleaned out trappers, and talked about the state writing assessment in February. We went to the media center and checked in/out books.
Assignment: Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points.

The HISTORY Experience
Experience at School: Students read and discussed the War of 1812 (pages 168 – 170 in the textbook). Students answered reading questions in class.

SCIENCE
In Class: All research was finished and all word processing documents were handed in to be checked. Templates were being filled with info. and pictures. We will run black and white copies tomorrow for alignment.
Assignment: Be sure any make up work is taken care of.
Journal: Fill out your planner for the week.
