ALGEBRA
In class: Goal: Write and use models for exponential decay.
Assignment: Page 488, exercises 10-36.

Pre Algebra
In Class: Goal: Calculate area of a room and find the area in square yards.
Handed in assignments on Friday.
Assignment: Complete the Dimensional Analysis III worksheet, show your work.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students practiced Assessment 8.1.4 terms using flashcards.
In Class: Students worked on the 9-page “White Umbrella” packet.
Assignment: The 9-page “White Umbrella” packet is due at the beginning of class on Monday, March 2nd. 8.1.4 Assessment on Tuesday, March 3rd! Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points. Book points are due by March 5th!

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students were assessed on chapter 19. Following quiz we discussed the answers/results.

SCIENCE
In Class: We took the first 10 minutes to grade/hand in the Mineral Worksheet. We then read about crystals that form from magma and crystals that form from solutions (pg. 63-65 from book). With remaining time, we looked at a Birthstone article in the “Science World” magazine.
Assignment: Get all make-up work done and in.

Organized assignments to be handed in on Friday.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students finished the practice assessment and discussed the answers.
In Class: Students received packets for “White Umbrella” and did the vocab. We listened to the story in class.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students turned in homework and continued our discussion on the Industrial Revolution. We completed an analogy worksheet of chapter 19 vocabulary words and discussed the transportation methods of the North and the South.

SCIENCE
In Class: Homework was stamped and journal entry #41 was completed. With remaining time, students put together crystals for the Alum crystals lab.

In Class: Goal: Continue to use dimensional analysis to convert between rates and units of measure.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students received grade sheets and discussed AR deadline.
In Class: Students reviewed for assessment by going over colored flashcards. We read “A Spark Neglected” and answered questions over it to practice for assessment.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students continued our discussion on the Industrial Revolution. We read a story of how factory workers were treated (p. 365) and worked on our notes packet.

In Class: Journal entry grades (#31-#40) were recorded on 3rd term grade sheets. Students finished discussing mineral uses and worked on a Mineral worksheet with remaining class time.

In class: Goal: Use the division properties of expressions to evaluate powers and simplify.

In Class: Goal: Use dimensional analysis to convert from one rate to another.
Used dry eraser boards to practice before beginning the assignment together.
Assignment: Complete page 284-385 (33, 35-45).

Bell Work: Students finished Reformation packet.
In Class: Students took the Retrieved Reformation quiz and handed in their packet.
Assignment: Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points. Book points are due by March 5th!

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students read and discussed the economic systems of the north and the south. We analyzed the potential problems of a single-crop economy and the role of children in factories.
Homework: Chapter 19 Vocabulary Words (Only the words not known- quiz on Friday)

SCIENCE
In Class: Students finished testing minerals and naming them today. We started discussing mineral’s uses and will complete them tomorrow before starting a mineral worksheet. Journals were handed in to be graded according to entries #31-40.

In Class: Students worked on the packet for Retrieved Reformation and will have a quiz tomorrow.

In Class: Students began chapter 19. We discussed and read about the climate and physical features of the North and the South (sections 19.1 – 19.3 in the textbook). We placed the information on a graphic organizer.

In Class: Students took a comprehension and vocab quiz over “Tell-Tale Heart” and wrote an essay.

In Class: Students read and discussed the movement for the reform of women’s rights in the 1800’s (sections 18.6 and 18.7 in the textbook).
Assignment: Quiz chapter 18- look over notes and review questions


SCIENCE
In Class: We introduced and reviewed the properties of minerals (color, luster, streak, hardness, cleavage/fracture, crystal form, and special properties). Students were divided into groups of 3 or 4 and asked to become an expert on their property. All properties were then discussed. With remaining time, mineral properties lab was started.
Assignment: Go out and look at the new constellation.

In Class: Goal: Estimate with percents using the meaning of percents, the 1% method and the fractions method.
Assignment: Estimating with percent worksheet pages 9-12. Be prepared to hand in the packet on Thursday.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students wrote flash cards for the literary terms.
In Class: Students worked on packet for “Tell-Tale Heart” and took a recall quiz. Comprehension and vocabulary quiz will be Thursday.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students reviewed the prison reforms of the 1800’s and analyzed data from the Justice Department regarding prison today. Students read section 18.5 and copied review questions from overhead.
Assignment: Finish reading section 18.5 and complete review questions (notes) from 18.5 due tomorrow.


SCIENCE
In Class: We finished our rocks and minerals differences lab. The lab was done in partners or groups of threes with each group having their own samples to view. After completing the lab, we discussed which of the ten where rocks and which were minerals. Notes were then taken on rocks and minerals.
Assignment: Get Rocks and Minerals differences lab completed and put notes into your journal. Go out and look at the new constellation.

In Class: Students discussed literature terms and examples. Students took notes over Short Story Elements. There will be a quiz on Monday.

In Class: Chapter 15 and 16 vocabulary quiz. Students discussed the Donner Party and what makes certain things taboo in a culture.

SCIENCE
In Class: Assessments on compounds, chemical reactions, and physical and chemical changes were completed. Science folders were cleaned out and unnecessary information was put in their portfolios. With remaining time, they spent time in the computer lab on “Jefferson Lab.”

Bell Work: Students organized Lit Journals and DOL books.
In Class: Students discussed book incentive and visited the Book Fair. They worked in groups to complete literary term worksheet.
Assignment: Literary definitions due Tuesday. Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students read, discussed and took notes on p. 216-217 and 225-226 (the Chinese and Californios). Students took a virtual tour of a Spanish Mission.

SCIENCE
In Class: Assignments were handed back and added to the 3rd term grade sheet. We worked on the review sheets for the assessment tomorrow and students were given a practice assessment to complete before tomorrow.

In class: Goal: Use the properties of exponents to simplify and multiply expressions.
Finished the chapter 7 test and introduced the properties for exponents. Returned and recorded the assignment packet. Grades will be updated on Monday to included the two grades for chapter 7 (test and assignments).
Assignment: Complete the Practice worksheet 8.1

Pre Algebra
In Class: Goal: Solve for the principal, rate or time using the simple interest formula.
Used dry eraser boards to practice before beginning the assignment.
Updated student grades on the progress sheet.
Assignment: Complete the simple interest worksheet page 73 Exercises 1-9 odd.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students located plot maps.
In Class: Students finished viewing To Build a Fire and completed plot maps about the short story. Keep the plot map until class on Monday.
Assignment: Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students took a quiz over the uber awesome stuff we learned this week. Students turned in analogy homework and read and discussed the 49’ers.

In Class: Students wrote for the state writing assessment-day 2.

In Class: Students reflected on their Oregon Trail experience from yesterday. Tests were returned and discussed. Students also read, discussed and took notes on the Mormon Trail.

Bell Work: Students handed in grade sheets.
In Class: Students evaluated other students’ essays and found figurative language in them. Students wrote for the state writing assessment-day 1.
Assignment: Grade sheets due. State writing assessment is February 3rd and 4th! Students should be reading AR books for 3rd term points.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Started Chapter 16- Moving West. Students read, discussed and took notes on the purpose of missionaries and their trek to the west. In addition, we explored the role of pioneer women on the trail and their legacy on the west.
Assignment: Prepare for the Oregon Trail

SCIENCE
In Class: We discussed balancing equations. Question #1 and #2 were modeled to the students, #3 and #4 were done together, and #’s 5-7 were done individually in class. Question #8 was a tricky question so students were just to attempt the problem.
Assignment: Get all make-up work done and in!!! If you didn’t get problems 5-8 done on the worksheet, they are homework!
