Thursday - April 30th

ALGEBRA
In class: Factored using the Greatest Common Factor.
Goal: Use the GCF then complete the factorization if possible.
Assignment: Page 629 (15-28)

Pre Algebra
In Class: Practiced finding the surface area of 3-D shapes.
Goal: Memorize the surface area formulas for rectangular prisms, cubes and square pyramids.
Assignment: Complete worksheet page 9-5. Give the formula, show the substitution, and get the answer and label for 1-15.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students wrote a journal about Grandpa Trenker’s advice. We handed in journals for a grade.
In Class: Students took a quiz on chapters 1-4. We read chapter 5 aloud from Gentlehands and filled out our packets. Read chapters 6-7 for Friday.
Assignment: Gentlehands 5-7 quiz on Friday. Students should be reading AR books for 4th term points.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students exchanged and solved civil war codes. Students were given a handout of information about medical care and the battle of Antietam. In addition, we continued our discussion of Antietam by focusing on the results and political fallout of this battle.

SCIENCE
In Class: We finished highlighting and reading the information on weathering and soils. We finished the sediment lab and started working with the soils we brought in.
Assignment: Answer the questions on the attached sheet to the best of your knowledge. We will use the books to complete them.

ALGEBRA
In class: Returned and recorded the chapter 10 quiz.
Goal: Use special product patterns to factor quadratic equations.
Assignment: Page 622-623 ( 18-62 even)

Pre Algebra
In Class: Used the solids to identify formulas, took notes on the surface area of compound shapes.
Goal: Apply the surface area formulas to complex shapes:.
Assignment: Page 456-457 ( 10-15, 17,18,20).

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students looked at M.E. Kerr’s website.
In Class: Students cleaned out trappers. We read chapters 1-2 aloud from Gentlehands and filled out our packets. Read chapters 3-4 for Thursday.
Assignment: Gentlehands 1-4 quiz on Thursday. Students should be reading AR books for 4th term points.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students reviewed the problems and advances of medical care during the Civil War. Students then watched a 5-minute (historically accurate) cartoon of the Battle of Antietam. Students were then given a codex and a worksheet of civil war code words to decipher for tomorrow.
Assignment: Students must complete 2 sections of their code worksheet and create a coded message for class tomorrow.

SCIENCE
In Class: We reviewed the type of weathering from yesterday. We went over the assessments taken on Monday. We started the sediment lab.
Assignment: Get your soil here if you haven’t brought it.
Journal: See attached sheet.

Goal: Use you knowledge of factoring trinomials, solving quadratic equations using factoring, and locating the x-intercept and vertex point to do your best on the quiz.

ENGLISH
Bell Work: Students wrote a journal as an introduction to Gentlehands.
In Class: Students received packets and books for Gentlehands. We introduced the novel and took notes.
Assignment: Persuasive essay final copy due on Monday, April 27. Students should be reading AR books for 4th term points.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students watched video clips of the medical care during the Civil War. Students took notes over the problems/advances of medical care during the Civil War.

SCIENCE
In Class: We watched the film on weathering and erosion. Outline notes were taken and a reading packet was handed out. Come in to see the film and get your notes taken.
Assignment: Get your soil here for Wed. Get the notes you need.
Journal: Tell the difference between weathering and erosion and give two examples.

In Class: Students watched Anne Frank DVD and finished their essays. They should be working on their stamp essay packets.
Assignment: Persuasive essay final copy due on Monday, April 27. Students should be reading AR books for 4th term points.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students read and discussed the role of women during the Civil War and the next stage of the Anaconda Plan. Students completed a reading comprehension sheet about the reading in class.

SCIENCE
In Class: We reviewed a little for the assessment. Review sheets were handed in. We took the assessment. Folders were cleaned out. You will need a sandwich bag of soil by Wednesday for class.
Assignment: Get your soil. Hand in your review sheet and take the assessment.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students were given a brief introduction on the Civil War. Students used the remaining class time too complete a worksheet using the pictures and captions from chapter 22.

In Class: We checked the “Find It” maps and handed in the rubrics. We also talked about the Plate Tectonics worksheet. 1-5 were due today, the rest of the questions need to be done for tomorrow. Use your map and web to finish them.

In Class: Students reviewed for the test. Topics: Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, Kansas-Nebraska Act, Dred Scott Case, Election of 1860, John Brown and Charles Sumner. Filled out a FQ on John Brown and why his attack was not successful. Students took the test.

SCIENCE
In Class: We did a lab simulation on the boundaries of the plate movement in Plate Tectonics. Plate Tectonics worksheet handed out for Monday.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: Students read and discussed the Lincoln-Douglas Debates, John Brown’s Raid on Harpers Ferry and the Election of 1860 (p.298 – 300 in the textbook). Students completed their notes and were handed back chapter 21 quiz to review for the test.
Assignment: TEST on FRIDAY!!!!

SCIENCE
In Class: The web was finished for the three theories for the movement of the earth. We started naming and color-coding the major plates on our “Find It” maps.
Assignment: Get your web caught up. Start coloring your map.

In Class: Students discussed the Dred Scott Case. Student divided into small groups and wrote 3 arguments for each side of the case and a final decision.

In Class: We did an activity with puzzle pieces to help with the understanding of plate tectonics. We worked on finishing the web with the reading from the book on the three theories.

In Class: Find It maps were checked for the correct placement of the geologic actions and features. We added direction arrows to start looking at how the plates move. Folders were cleaned out. We started a web with reading out of the book on the three theories of how the earth moves.

The HISTORY Experience
In Class: The students read sections 21.5 and 21.6 (pages 291-293) in their textbook. Students completed part 3 on “The Missouri Compromise Unravels” and Part 1, Issue 1 and 2 on “The Compromise Satisfies No One.”

SCIENCE
In Class: Constellation of the Month done for April. I attached the sheets you will need. We went over the Geology tests. You have the option of restudying and coming in to earn back half of your points. We worked on the “Find It” Maps for about five minutes.
Assignment: Get caught up on any make up work. Check the back board for any work due. Get out and look at the new constellation.

In Class: The students read sections 21.4 in their textbook and discussed how the Missouri Compromise unraveled. Students completed the next page in their notes packet.
